And of course it's the mountain range in northwestern Wyoming that the title refers to, whatever those who understand French slang might think!!

Jackson is a thriving and very prosperous mountain town.

Once a typical western/cowboy town, Jackson has become in the past couple of decades an upscale ski resort, increasingly even more popular in the summer with its proximity to both Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone National Park. Jackson is home (primary as well as second, third and fourth!) now to the “rich and famous”, not least Harrison Ford and Dick Cheney and property prices match accordingly. The town was closed to visitors for more than three months after the virus struck, but re-opened with a bang in July and was quite literally heaving with domestic tourists during our stay. Most accommodation including camp sites are full and it’s almost impossible to get a restaurant reservation. Locals told us that in the absence of overseas visitors in the summer months, they thought the season would be a dud but it has instead turned into a bumper one. The one plus at least from our perspective - the coaches and buses that would normally pack the roads in and around the parks at this time of year with crowds admiring the scenery and trying to spot wild life are not operating

Wild life spotting is a favourite visitor pastime during the summer months. As anywhere, dawn is the best spotting time and so we set off in the dark and cold of pre-sunrise with naturalist guide Mike - complete with full Covid precautions, not just masks and gloves but in a vehicle with a perspex screen between us and Mike. The vehicle was fitted with roof hatches so it was just like being on safari! Strange how one normally associates being on safari with being in Africa!! But we were rewarded - herds of buffalo, sprong horn antelope (the fastest land animal in North America) and one solitary, very large female moose.

Hiking is the other favourite summer pastime in this part of the world. so how could we say know. We had an excellent guide who led us on a trail where despite the crowds in town and on the roads in Grand Teton National Park, we saw virtually nobody in the four hours we hiked the trail

Nothing can beat a few days enjoying Great Tetons....
